Hiring Continues on the PE Front

October 8, 2008

Private equity firm Claret Capital has beefed up its new PE fund teams in Dublin and New York by hiring two executives from JPMorgan Chase. Dermot Hanley is joining Claret from JPMorgan Chase in Toronto, where he was executive director in mid-corporate investment banking. Yuki Narula joins Claret from JPMorgan’s New York office, where he was executive director of the financial sponsors group, according to financtives.com

Meanwhile, U.S. private equity giant Blackstone Group is hiring 12 bankers from Asian rivals, including a partner and two managing directors from Lehman Brothers. Just last week, Merrill Lynch hired away Lehman’s six-person power sector coverage team. It is the second major raid on Lehman since Nomura Holdings Inc. of Japan agreed to acquire Lehman’s business in Asia and Europe, reports the Wall Street Journal. However, the Japanese bank was unable to agree to terms for the takeover by the deadline, leading to further uncertainty and the possibility that even more Lehman staff will be searching for jobs in private equity sector.
